being MEdia is a visionary, down-to-earth video production and new media partnership. we are located in Seattle, Washington and work internationally.
plain talk about being MEdia
1. we started being MEdia in august, 2004 as a way to spend more time together.
2. basil and billie began combining story-telling with design in 1989 and 1990, respectively, when we produced our first zines (self-published magazines).
3. basil's first professional print design job was in 1991, as an official designer of his high school yearbook. his first web job came later, in 1998, as a designer for The Evergreen State College website. eventually, he worked full-time for various professional design, marketing and video production companies.
4. billie's early days of project management began in high school. working with a local group, billie organized fundraisers and concerts, and coordinated volunteers for social service projects. immediately following graduation, billie helped launch an international feminist movement called riot grrrl.
5. between 2004 and 2007, basil has worked on 5 feature-length documentaries including the 2007 Oscar nominated "Iraq In Fragments."
6. from these not-so-humble beginnings, we have blossomed into professional designers, story-tellers, and entrepreneurs, with a body of artistic and professional work that spans 16 years.
our principles
1. creativity: from the way we run our business to our relationship with clients to our approach to your project, we apply critical thinking, flexibility, pragmatism and imagination to ensure that our work meets the needs of a vibrant world in flux.
2. quality: you work hard for your money, and so do we. you deserve quality service that honors your creative wisdom.
3. fun! we like it. and anyway, business doesn't have to be boring.
4. accessibility: we're committed to making our products and services accessible to as many people as possible. for example, our websites are designed with text readers and color accessibility in mind. and we offer special discounted rates and pro-bono services to low-income and non-profit clients.

5. community: we're building community along the way. we're not just interested in taking our clients money and moving on to the next project. what we are interested in is finding people, organizations and businesses that we can build positive, sustainable and successful relationships with -- whether that comes in the form of a smile you get every time you watch the wedding video that we created for you, or the confidence you have when calling us for the 10th project we're about to embark on together.
6. uniqueness: we're interesting, unique people and we let that come across in the work that we do. not only that, but we're interested in the unique personalities and situations of our varied clients. don't feel like you have to fit a mold to work with us!
7. sustainability: we work with an eye on the long-haul: for ourselves, for you and for the earth.
our promises
2. we won't sell you or ourselves short.
3. we will treat you with respect.
4. we will use professional equipment, software and techniques.
